On Jan 10th the Critics' Choice Awards named "Argo" the Best Film of the Year.

In addition to the Best Picture award, the film received the Best Director accolade for Ben Affleck. Upon receiving this recognition Ben Affleck joked and stated"I would like to thank the Academy... I'm kidding, I'm kidding. This is the one that counts." The director was joking about the fact that he was snubbed in the morning for the Best Director award at the Academy Awards.

However it was not "Argo" that shined on this night. "Silver Linings Playbook" won four awards. The film won the Best Ensemble recognition and the Best Comedy award. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper picked the Best Comedy Actor and Actress accolades. Lawrence also received the award for Best Actress in an Action movie.

"Lincoln" and "Skyfall also had a good night. "Lincoln" received recognitions for John Williams in the Best Score category and for Tony Kushner's Adapted Screenplay. Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best Actor Award.

"Skyfall" won awards for Best Action movie and for Best Song. Daniel Craig won the Best Actor in an  Action Movie Award.

Three films also received two awards. Jessica Chastain picked up the Actress award for "Zero Dark Thirty." The film also garnered the Best Editing award.

"Anna Karenina" and "Life of Pi" received two technical awards. "Anna" picked up kudos for Production Design and Costume Design while "Pi" received awards in Cinematography and Visual Effects.

Philip Seymour Hoffman won the Supporting Actor award for "The Master" and Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress for "Les Miserables"

Academy Award nominee "Amour" garnered the Foreign Film Award while "Wreck It Ralph" won the Animated film honor.

The awards have a history of prognosticating the Oscars but this year Ben Affleck's directing win is irrelevant to the Oscar race as he is not nominated. As a result the director race remains a question mark. The picture race is also yet to see a front-runner as "Argo" proved it is still the critic's darling. However with no directing nomination at the Academy Awards its chances of winning the Oscar are on the line.
