At one time or another, you've had days when you feel like you need a twin just to get everything done. In between work commitments and home life, you might even feel stressed. In small doses, stress can be beneficial. It can help you meet deadlines at work and help stay focused. However, when feeling stressed becomes the norm, you need to start to take action.

Start Journaling

Journaling is one of the best ways to relieve stress. It may not fix the problem, but it can help you to see it on paper. Write down what's making you feel stressed and several possible solutions. You can list them from the most likely to least likely or vice versa. Putting your thoughts on paper can also help you sleep better. Keep a notepad by your bed and jot down anything you need to do or what's on your mind. Use this as a stepping stone to winding down before bed.

Practice Mindfulness

When you feel stressed, you might feel like life is passing you by and that you're missing out on life's simple pleasures. Learning how to live in the moment can help regain control of your life, even when stress levels are high. Find time every day to appreciate the things you have and enjoy those quiet moments. Mindfulness is different for everyone, so there is no right or wrong. If you're an early riser, use time to enjoy a cup of coffee and enjoy the silence. If you are a night owl, do an activity you enjoy. The goal should be living in that moment and not worrying about work or issues.

Ask for Help

Even with the best intentions, there may be times when you need a helping hand. If your stress levels are through the roof and you can't get it under control, cognitive therapy can help. A psychologist or licensed social worker can teach you cognitive behavior strategies to help you feel at ease. For example, if you're having financial difficulties, they can help find a viable solution. They may refer you to guides that explain the pros and cons of insurance settlements work and understand your maximum cash value of your policy.

Start Exercising

Physical activity is another great way to reduce stress. Being active can help lower stress hormones, like cortisol, while boosting endorphins. Exercise not only brightens your mood, but can also improve your sleep quality as well. Since stress is a known cause of insomnia, counteracting it with regular exercise makes dealing with stress just a little easier. Even the smallest of problems can feel overwhelming when you're exhausted. Shoot for at least 30 minutes a day of aerobic exercise. Keep in mind it doesn't need to be all at one time either. A 15-minute walk in the morning and another at lunch is perfectly fine. You can even dance the stress away to your favorite tunes. Whichever you choose, just make sure it's something you enjoy. This will motivate you to move, even when you're not feeling your best.
