Miss Venezuela Irene Esser Quintero has faced a great deal of criticism over the internet after her answer during the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.

When asked what law she would change if given the chance, Quintero chose to respond in English instead of her native Spanish and said, ""I think that any leys (laws) there are in Constitution or in life, are already made. I think that we should have, uh, a straight way to go in our similar, or, eh, in our lives as is this. For example, I'm a surfer, and I think that the best wave that I can take is the wave that I wait for it. So please do our only, eh, law that we can do. Thank you, Vegas!"

The internet went abuzz with complaints that her answer made no sense, but Quintero has since been able to clarify the meaning of her statement. During an interview with Omar Germenos of Telemundo's Un Nuevo Dia, Venezuela's most beautiful woman stated that she had wanted to say something more general. When she received the question, she stated that many thoughts went through her mind and in hopes of not stirring any controversy she said the first things that came to her mind.

"What I meant to say is that everyone has the right to choose what to do with our lives. There are constitutions and laws that tell us what to do. We should do what the law says but by following our own way," she clarified. When Germenos asked why she didn't say it in English, Quintero said that she was extremely excited and that she got caught up in her emotions.

Despite being derided by the entire world, Quintero did state that she received compliments from one person. According to the Quintero, Donald Trump came to her and told her that it was the best answer that he had ever heard. When she asked him if he understood what she had said, he responded that he didn't but that she had delivered it with such confidence and assurance that it not matter.

Regarding her future, she stated that she has a great deal of opportunities in New York, but that she would like to go to Venezuela for the holidays first.
