Super Smash Bros. 4 News: New Character Added to Roster, Release Date Unknown

The newest character confirmed by Nintendo for Super Smash Bros. 4 has been revealed: Fire Emblem's Marth will return to the series.

Marth is the 18th playable character confirmed for the game, and longtime fans of the series will be familiar with the character, as he has appeared in most games in the series, with his debut in Super Smash Bros. Melee on the Gamecube. His entry into the popular brawler helped his original franchise, FIre Emblem, take off in the United States and become an international sensation. While Marth may be the newest confirmed character for the game, another character was possibly revealed before him. A male version of the Wii Fit Trainer was seen in a daily update for the game, but Nintendo did not elaborate if this would be a separate character or an alternate skin. However, considering that Nintendo makes special announcements for new characters for Super Smash Bros. 4, and the male Wii Fit Trainer didn't get one, this looks to be an alternate skin for the Wii Fit Trainer rather than a separate character or even a Zelda/Shiek situation.

While it's all well and good that Marth is confirmed for the game, no brand new characters have been confirmed for the new game since E3. During E3, the Wii Fit Trainer, the Animal Crossing Villager and Mega Man were announced for Super Smash Bros., but all the characters revealed since then are returning characters. Fans of the series have been speculating what new additions will be made to the game, and it's about time Nintendo reveals a real new character rather than confirming a character most had assumed would be in the game anyway.

Super Smash Bros. 4 will be coming sometime in 2014 for the Wii U and 3DS, and it is one of the most-anticipated games coming out during the year, and could be a big boost for the struggling Wii U. The game will have several differences between its Wii U and 3DS versions, most notably in the different levels unique to each platform.
