Batman: Arkham Origins will be available starting on Oct. 25, and developer WB Games has released a brand new trailer as a final attempt to drum up interest in the latest installment of the critically-acclaimed series.
The trailer begins with Gotham Police surrounding a building with men and helicopters, and it appears they have the dreaded Black Mask surrounded. Batman watches from the Batcave as the police envelop the building, but the trailer cuts away to the villain. He proclaims that change is on on the way, and the mobster climbs into his own helicopter to avoid the police.
From here we see our first glimpse of Batman's mask, and a much younger Bruce Wayne is shown preparing to confront his foe. Batman dons the mask and marches out to the Bat-jet as his loyal butler Alfred reminds him that it is Christmas Eve. At this point the trailer cuts to Batman making a dramatic entrance into the scene and the trailer switches from cinematic scenes to gameplay.
Batman is seen exploring the typically dour and bleak looking surroundings found in the series, and we get a glimpse of the caped crusaders boss fight with Deathstroke. In addition to the masked assassin, Batman is also seen laying the smackdown on the Penguin, throwing him into a mirror. In between a slow motion takedown of thugs is shown, and Batman looks to be attacked by Robin. Batman looks as though he is going to be searching for Black Mask throughout the game, as he is shown with a boot on top of the Penguin wondering where the mobster can be found.
After Black Mask proclaims tomorrow will be different (i.e., with no Batman) we see Batman doing a variety of tricks that prove that Black Mask's statement is very wrong. Batman uses electric gloves and some wrestling moves to take down Bane, as well as his familiar detective mode to figure out what happened at a crime scene. Various scenes of villains and explosions flash by, until the title of the game hits the screen, ending to trailer.
This trailer highlights many of the familiar aspects of the Arkham series for returning players, and also shows how the game will tell a story that depicts a younger and more inexperienced Batman as he deals with some of the most lethal villains in the hero's long comic book history.
