Batman: Arkham Origins is the third game in the critically acclaimed series, and the first to be developed by WB Montreal instead of Rocksteady Games. The game recently had a strong showing at the San Diego Comic Con this past weekend, where the villain Copperhead was revealed to be one of the eight assassins that form the group of evildoers bent on killing Batman on Christmas Eve. Now Official Xbox Magazine and VG247 are reporting that Jervis Tetch, aka Mad Hatter, will be returning to the series in Arkham Origins.

Mad Hatter first appeared in Batman: Arkham City in one of the strangest and creepiest segments of the game. Much like the otherworldly Scarecrow segments of the first game in the series, Mad Hatter causes Batman to hallucinate and forces the player to overcome the odd visuals in order to defeat the villain and his henchmen. Gamers can expect a similar experience in Arkham Origins, which takes place years before the events of the first two games of the series.

In addition to Mad Hatter and Copperhead, other villains confirmed for the game include Deathstroke (who may be getting his own DLC for the game), Penguin, Bane, and the series main antagonist, The Joker. However, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, the voice actors of Batman and The Joker for the series, respectively, will not be returning to the series. Hamill decided to leave the series after his critically acclaimed work in Arkham CIty, and Conroy was replaced because the producers of the series felt that a younger voice actor was needed to reflect the game's earlier time period.

Batman: Arkham Origins will be out on Oct. 25 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC. Besides the general plot of the game, WB Montreal has kept much of the action under wraps. The game will continue the excellent fighting system of the first two titles in the series, and will return to the open world setting of Gotham that was seen in Arkham City. The game is also rumored to have some sort of multiplayer component, which would be a first for the series. A handheld spinoff, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, will be appearing on Oct. 25 as well for the PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS.

Look out for more Batman: Arkham Origins news as the game gets closer to its release date.
