The newest patch for Grand Theft Auto Online has a previously unannounced feature that will halve the amount of money players receive from repeating missions. This news was confirmed by Rockstar on the game's support page after players started noticing the lesser payoffs when the patch was released on Oct. 18.

Rockstar confirmed that this move was intentional, as it was implemented to encourage players branching out to different missions and for the replay availability of NPC missions that the developer may add later:

"For those of you inquiring about mission payouts, there was a change that reduces payouts by 50% after a repeat of the mission. The first time you play and beat the mission, you will get the full amount. Subsequent replays will see a payout amount reduced by half. This is to keep the game balanced as well as encourage the exploration of new missions and content in the game."

"We understand players do like to enjoy a mission multiple times, so rather than remove the possibility of doing so, we've allowed replays of these missions at a reduced payout. Many players can get very good at a mission and beat it much faster in consecutive tries, so we've adjusted these payouts to match that case...This also ties in to our ongoing discussion of replay availability for NPC missions, in which we are taking community feedback as well...We apologize that there was not full clarity about this in the patch notes; however, hopefully this note will clear things up. If there are any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask."

Undoubtedly this is disappointing news for Grand Theft Auto Online players as replaying profitable missions was one of the easiest ways to gain extra cash and experience. However, it looks as though Rockstar will eventually allow users to replay NPC missions, which may allow for some of this loss revenue to be recouped whenever the feature is brought to the game.

Grand Theft Auto Online was initially launched on Oct. 1, and the mode was initially very much broken. Players would lose character data including their rank and cash, and vehicles would randomly disappear with no explanation. Rockstar has worked hard to fix these bugs and offered half a million dollars in in-game cash to players as an apology to players.

Look out for more news on Grand Theft Auto Online as Rockstar continues to add new content and features to the game.
