When Apple announced on Sept. 10 that they would be launching the iPhone 5S on Sept. 20, the tech world exploded with people eager to get their hands on the newest iPhone, along with the other iPhone announced at the event, the iPhone 5C. The 5S will be competing with many different smartphones hitting the market this fall, including the Motorola Moto X. Both smartphones have their own share of fans, and the two phones represent two very different philosophies when it comes to technology.

The 5S and Moto X look very different from each other. The iPhone 5S will use the traditional iPhone design, with CNET reporting that the device will come in gold, silver and white. The phone's display will be 4 inches with a 1,136 x 640-pixel resolution. The Moto X will be slightly bigger with a 4.7 inch display capable of a 720p resolution. The Moto X's design has rounded corners meant for users to hold the device in one hand, and the Moto X has a variety of colors available to certain users. Motorola allows users to customize the color scheme of the Moto X, right down to the volume button. However, this service is only currently available for AT&T customers, and other service providers only offer the device in black and white.

The specs between the devices show the real difference between the Moto X and the 5S. The Moto X will have a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro running at 1.7 GHz.. Meanwhile, the 5S will use a dual-core Apple A7 processor that also runs at 1.7GHz, and the smartphone will also be the first smartphone to use a 64 bit chip. This will allow the 5S to do things other smartphones simply cannot do, and it gives it an edge over the Moto X in terms of specs.

The two devices run on two different operating systems. As an Apple device, the 5S will run on the new iOS 7 announced along with the new iPhone. The Moto X currently runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

The pricing models for the two phones are very different as well. The Moto X is available in the 16GB model for $199 and a two year contract, with users getting the chance to upgrade to the 32GB model for an extra $50. Without contract the phone will cost $599. The iPhone 5S has three models coming in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of storage. The three models will cost $199, $299, and $399 respectively, with a commitment to a two year contract. Without contract, the three models of the 5S will cost $649, $749, and $849 respectively.

Overall, the Moto X and iPhone 5S are two very different phones. The Moto X appeals to those looking for a decent smartphone that can be created from the ground up, while the 5S is for those looking for the latest tech to test out. Look out for more information about both smartphones right here as the 5S launches and the Moto X continue to expand.
