The Motorola Moto X is now available for Verizon Wireless customers to order online, and an unlocked version of the device for those who do not want to commit to a two year contract from Verizon or AT&T is also now available ... sort of.

The Verizon Wireless version of the Moto X does not have the customizable features included with the AT&T version; the MotorMaker website is only available for AT&T customers. Verizon Wireless customers can order the phone online, but can only decide on if they want a black or white model. If Verizon Wireless customers want to order the device from a Verizon store, they are also out of luck. The device is only currently available online. The Moto X will eventually come to Verizon stores, but the delay will be fairly significant.

It is unknown when Verizon customers will be able to gain access to the customizable aspects of the Moto X, and it is also unknown when other service providers such as T-Mobile and Sprint will be able to get their hands on the device.

For those who want to pick up the Moto X without a contract, they can by the device through the MotorMaker website for $579. However, this is not the Developer Edition of the phone that is completely independent of service providers. The unlocked version of the Moto X currently available is still tied to AT&T, according to TechHive, and users who drop the hundreds of dollars on the phone will have to go to an AT&T store and ask for the phone to be unlocked. A further catch: as per AT&T's policy with unlocked Android devices, users who buy the unlocked Moto X will have to have an active AT&T account in good standing with the company for them to actually unlock the Moto X.

The one bright side to the several loopholes users must jump through to get the unlocked Moto X is that users who buy the phone get access to the full range of customizable options exclusive to AT&T customers, so those with the ability to actually unlock the Moto X should do so.

Look out for more news about the Motorola Moto X and which service providers will get access to the device next, plus when the Developer Edition of the game will come out.
