Gran Turismo 6 has not been released yet, but developer Polyphony Digital has already hinted at the possibility of developing Gran Turismo 7 for the PlayStation 4.

According to Joystiq, Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi discussed Gran Turismo 6 at Gamescom Gran, and how at one point the company planned to bring the game to the PlayStation 4 as well as the PlayStation 3. However, Yamauchi warned that it would be awhile before a PlayStation 4 version of Gran Turismo 6 would become available; so long in fact that it may morph into Gran Turismo 7. While there is a lot of guesswork coming from Polyphony Digital about the future of Gran Turismo, it looks as though fans of the series can look forward to some sort of Gran Turismo game coming to the PlayStation 4 sooner rather than later. Most likely, if the company is working on a Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 4 already, fans can expect that game rather than a Gran Turismo 7 appearing so soon after the sixth game in the series.

Gran Turismo 6 has been one of the most talked about subjects at Gamescom, and the game has gotten an official release date on the PlayStation 3 of Dec. 6, several weeks after the PlayStation 4 launches on Nov. 15.

During the Sony press conference at Gamescom it was revealed that the game will feature several concept cars from Aston Martin, BMW, Honda and Nissan. These concept cars may in fact be virtual models of real world concept cars the manufacturers are tinkering with, rather than a car designed exclusively for the game by the companies. Sony also announced a movie deal based on the series, specifically about the story of Lucas Ordóñez, according to Destructoid. The Gran Turismo player managed to turn his love of the racing sim into a real-life career racing professionally for Nissan, and could be an interesting subject of a movie.

Gran Turismo 6 is one of the last big games coming to the PlayStation 3, with Grand Theft Auto 5 being the other big game set to appear solely on the current generation of consoles (that is if the PlayStation 4 Gran Turismo game turns into the seventh game in the series rather than a port of the sixth game). The game figures to be one of the best racings game to come out, and should be able to compete with next-gen offerings such as Froza 5 and the PlayStation 4 exclusive DriveClub.
