Since the release of Gran Turismo 5 in 2010, there have been rumors about the next game in the series, considering the sixth game in the series was announced almost immediately after the previous game had been released. While there has been many different theories about the game, it appears Polyphony Digital will release the game sometime this year. What may surprise some is that the game will not be appear on the PlayStation 4, but on the PlayStation 3 instead.

In an interview with Silicon Republic, senior vice-president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's Worldwide Studios Michael Denny gave a hint that the newest Gran Turismo will arrive on the current generation of systems, and not the future.

When pointing out the future releases of the PlayStation 3, Denny is quoted as saying "Look at the games coming out on the PlayStation 3 like The Last of Us, Beyond:Two Souls, GT6..." This small drop of information has sent fan's passion aflame, as the long awaited game gets a more definite release time, though no official date is known.

While this out-of-the-blue reveal may shock some, given that every Sony studio is making games for the PlayStation 4, Gran Turismo 6 has been in development since 2010, so development kits for the new system were most likely unavailable. This does not rule out a port over to the next generation either, as several games, such as Bungie's Destiny, are appearing on current and next gen systems. It should also be pointed out that another studio, Evolution, is making a racing game for the PlayStation 4, entitled DriveClub. Will we see Gran Turismo 6 before the end of the year? As usual, we will have to wait and see until some official announcements are made.
