Gran Turismo 6 was announced yesterday for a fall release later this year on the PlayStation 3, shocking many who expected the game to be released on the PlayStation 4. However, when interviewed by Gamespot, Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that the company has a plan for a future PlayStation 4 version of the game, but decided to focus on the PlayStation 3 release first.

"We have a PS4 version in mind for the future...But for this holiday season we thought that it would be best for users to release the PS3 version...I thought the best scenario would be for the game to come out, and we're planning to have new content, and DLC every few months."

However, those hoping for Gran Turismo 6 as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 may be disappointed, as Yamauchi revealed that it may be awhile before the game comes to the next-gen system.

"Once the players have thoroughly played out the game, if the PlayStation 4 version just came out naturally in the process, we think that would be the best scenario for the game,"

One last interesting bit of information Yamauchi revealed is that player progress from the PlayStation 3 "probably" will be able to be transferred over to the PlayStation 4.

It will be interesting to see how the different versions of the games will stack up against each other, and which ultimately proves to be the more popular of the two. Though it may take some additional time to be able to play the game on the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 3 version of the game looks absolutely gorgeous, and the amount of detail that Polyphony Digital puts into each version of Gran Turismo is stunning. Readers should look out in the coming months to see when Gran Turismo 6 receives an official release date.
