The new Google Nexus 7, often referred to as the Google Nexus 7 2, has gotten a confirmed release date for the United Kingdom from ASUS. The Google Nexus 7 2 has a late August release date for the UK, so hopefully other release dates, especially for wireless providers carrying the LTE version in the US, won't be far behind.

ASUS confirmed the release date at a press event in Blighty Thursday night, according to the Register, as it also showed off the ASUS MeMo Pad HD 7. Both the 16GB and 32GB models of the Google Nexus 7 2 will be available starting August 28, according to the report of ASUS's confirmation of the release date.

That release date generally falls in line with previous estimates about the UK release date, and even beats some rumors that said it would only be available in early to mid-September. ASUS built the Google Nexus 7 2 for the Mountain View giant, and so far it has garnered rave reviews. Google unveiled the new Android 4.3 tablet in late July, and since then the 16GB and 32GB WiFI only versions have been available for purchase in the Google Play Store, along with Best Buy, Amazon, and Staples.

But to really get the most out of the Google Nexus 7 2, you need LTE connectivity and a carrier. That's what customers in the U.S. are waiting for, and, according to several reports of the LTE version headed to various countries' store shelves, a release date (or several) shouldn't be too far away. Google itself said that the LTE version would be arriving in "the coming weeks" in late July, and reports have AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile carrying the hot new Android tablet.

The new Nexus 7 2 has a 7-inch display with 1920 x 1200p resolution, powered by a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB of RAM. The LTE version will have 32GB of storage, and all Google Nexus 7 2 devices run the newest Jelly Bean operating system, Android 4.3, right out of the box.
