The new Google Nexus 7 has finally arrived. The highly-rated tablet is hitting retail stores' shelves Tuesday, July 30, and here's what you need to know about it.
For starters, the Nexus 7 starts at $229 for the 16GB model, and runs up to $269 for 32GB of storage. Bear in mind that these prices are for the Wi-Fi-only variants, although Google is expected to release a 4G LTE-capable Nexus 7 somewhere down the line.
American buyers can purchase the tablet straight from Google at the Google Play store and expect one to two days for shipping. Those who wish to buy it through a brick-and-mortar can run over to major retailers such as Best Buy, Walmart, Radio Shack, and Staples where the Nexus 7 refresh costs the same.
However, international markets will have to wait a while longer. Google has opened up sign-up pages for the United Kingdom, Germany, France,Spain, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Canada, and India, where fans can enter their email in order to be notified when the tablet becomes available in their country. Canadian retailers are apparently selling the tablet, albeit in limited quantities.
The new Nexus 7, despite being slightly costlier than last year's model, has garnered rave reviews from early critics, who cite the tablet's display and specs as worthy of the price tag.
The new Nexus 7 comes with a 7-inch 1920X1200 display capable of playing back video in 1080p (something the iPad mini can't do), a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, and 2GB RAM. Unlike the original Nexus 7, which had no rear-facing camera, the new iteration features a 5-megapixel rear shooter along with the 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. Android 4.3 comes right out of the box, as does NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, and wireless charging.
