Day 3 of the Wimbledon Open is all set to begin on Wednesday as women's singles favorites Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka return to action on the iconic lawn of All-England Tennis Club.

The second round of play will officially begin with Azarenka taking on Flavia Pennetta in the first match on Center Court.

Azarenka, two-time Wimbledon Open semifinalist, is coming off a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Maria João Koehler of Portugal. On the other hand, Pennetta also had an easy time dispatching Elena Baltacha 6-4, 6-1 in the first round. Azarenka and Pennetta split their first two encounters, but the two have not fought each other on grass.

Meanwhile, former Wimbledon Open winner Maria Sharapova will also resume her campaign against Michelle Larcher de Brito of Portugal. Sharapova had a tough time against French woman Kristina Mladenovic but still came through with a 7-6, 6-3 victory on Tuesday. The Russian beauty will be facing de Brito, who's coming off a pulsating three-set thriller over American Melanie Oudin 7-6, 1-6, 6-4.

Also playing on Wednesday are former ladies champ Petra Kvitova and former world's no.1 Caroline Wozniacki. Kvitova, the 2011 Wimbledon Open winner, will take on Yaroslava Shvedova on Court no.1 while Wozniacki is set to face Petra Cetkovská on Court no.2.
