The fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul Canelo Alvarez is out to break records.
It is what it suggests so far after tickets for the upcoming Light Middleweight Clash dubbed as 'The One' were almost sold out on Tuesday.
Dan Rafael of ESPN Boxing said boxing aficionados should hurry because only 64 tickets are left for the upcoming mega-bout. Rafael added the only tickets remaining are valued at least $2,000 while the cheaper ones were already sold.
Without any doubt, there's a huge hype surrounding the fight between the undefeated pound-for-pound king and Mexico's boxing prodigy in Canelo, who emerged as the most exciting young fighter in the world.
Mayweather (44 wins with 26 KOs) is coming off a 12-round annihilation of Robert Guerrero last May 4 and hasn't been given a tough match since his fight with Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.
But several boxing analysts believe Canelo (42 wins with 30 KOs) has the potential to beat Mayweather because of his rare combinations of size, footwork, and punching power as a full-fledged light middleweight.
The fight will be contested at a catch weight of 152 pounds, preventing Canelo from bulking up to 170 pounds like he did in his last fight against Austin Trout.
However, De la Hoya believes Canelo will be more lethal for the reason that he's going to be faster and more agile during the fight.
Still, Mayweather remains the favorite to win his 45 professional fights mainly because of his blinding speed and seemingly invincible shoulder-roll defensive stance.
Showtime, who recently signed Mayweather to a six-fight contract, is expecting the fight to break a number of gate attendance and pay-per-view records due to popularity of both boxers.
