It seems that David De Gea's tenure with Manchester United is coming to an end according to a number of sources.
The 23-year old was brought in by Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2011 from the Spanish league to be the future keeper for the club, but his inconsistent play seems to have worn out the manager's patience.
British publication The Mirror is stating that Ferguson has "asked supremo David Gill and the club's American owners to fund a buy for a genuine number one." The report also indicates that Ferguson is in a rush to fill the void before the Champions League tilt with Real Madrid.
Website Joe.IE suggests that Manchester United may actually try to swap De Gea for Madrid keeper Iker Casillas. The latter has fallen out of favor with club boss Jose Mourinho and would likely be a solid fit for Ferguson. The publication also suggests the Pepe Reina and Stoke City's Asmir Begovic may also be on Ferguson's list.
United still has Anders Lindegaard, but he has also been deemed unreliable and will not fit into Ferguson's long-term plans.
Previous rumors indicated that De Gea may be part of a swap with Real Madrid that would bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the Red Devils, but that no longer seems to be the case.
