The January transfer window has now been opened and the rumors have mounted. Over the last few weeks, the biggest rumor was the impending move of Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo back to his original club Manchester United.

According to UK publication The Mirror, Ronaldo could be part of a trade that features Manchester United players David de Gea and Nani. The report indicates that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to pay Real Madrid 60 million pounds, 20 million less than what Madrid paid for him back in 2009 when the Portuguese superstar made the switch from the English league to the Spanish league.

Ronaldo has had a number of problems with Madrid over the course of the last few months and it is widely believed that he will not renew his contract with the Spanish club. He has also expressed his desire to return to the Old Trafford to a number of his old teammates at United and his comments to the press indicate that he misses Manchester. "It felt very good there, it was like a family. I had six great years there and am still friends with my team-mates," he stated. "It is thanks to Manchester United that I am here playing for Real Madrid. Without them, I wouldn't be the player I am today."

According to What Culture, the purchase of Ronaldo would ensure him 300,000 pounds a week; approximately 50 thousand more than star player Wayne Rooney.

The deal is rumored to send Portuguese winger Nani and goalkeeper David De Gea to Madrid. Nani has not had a good relationship with Ferguson and has only played in seven games for Manchester United this season . He would likely get a fresh start at Madrid under Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho. David De Gea would likely be the key player in this trade as the 23-year old keeper could be the future for Real Madrid. With 31-year old legend Iker Casillas starting to show his age in the Madrid net, Los Merengues may be looking for his heir to replace him in coming years. De Gea has not had a great run at Manchester, but his return to the Spanish league (he used to play for Atletico Madrid) could help him regain his confidence.
