The NHL Lockout has gone on for months now and the two sides might be getting closer to striking a deal.
According to Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail, there has been a leak of more concessions from the league in order to meet demands of the NHLPA. The report states that an anonymous source from the NHL Board of Governors has mentioned that the league is willing to split the difference on a lot of their demands to try and compromise with the union.
The league wants a five year contract limit while the players are demanding something closer to seven.
According to the source, the league is willing to compromise for six with teams able to extend their free agents for up to eight years. Meanwhile the league has been battling for a 10 year CBA with an opt-out after eight years while the players want an eight year deal with and opt-out after six. The new league proposal requests a nine year deal with an opt-out after seven years. They are also offering a "simple buyout option," where the buyouts money would count against the salary cap.
According to the report from ESPN, two players opined on the new proposal and both felt that it was moving in the right direction and could be voted on.
"I think it's definitely worth looking at," Said one veteran player in an interview with ESPN.com. "We'd have to look it over and see what the implications are, but it's something to work with for sure. I think that will get some traction.
