Recently, Nintendo announced that “Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD” will release soon. The game will be a remastered version of the 2006 title, which previously launched on the Nintendo Wii and GameCube.
Reggie Fils-Amie, head of Nintendo of America, made the announcement at the first Nintendo Direct live-video presentation. ARS Technica noted that the game will launch on Mar. 4, 2016, together with a new Amiibo toy made after the Wolf Link character ridden by Midna. The brand new version will be playable on Nintendo Wii U.
IGN revealed that the HD port of “Twilight Princess” was developed together with Tantalus, an Australian-based developer. During the Nintendo Direct presentation, the company featured gameplay footage showing the various parts of the story, including Link meeting Zelda and Zelda riding Epona through Hyrule Field. Other characters and environments were also shown in the video. Based on the brief gameplay video, the title did not seem to support Wii remote motion controls.
Reportedly, the Wolf Link amiibo toy will be released together with the HD port and an official soundtrack in a special bundle. Data saved on the Wolf Link amiibo will be moved to “Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD.” Furthermore, the upcoming title will also support the five figures previously launched from the amiibo series by Smash Bros. namely, Link, Zelda, Toon Link, Shiek and Ganondorf.
Destructoid also posted a video that compared the graphic differences between the original 2006 game and the upcoming HD version. The Wii’s graphics were reportedly already quite outdated at the time of its release. The HD colors looked great in the new version, although not as good as the HD mode for the Dolphin emulator. The HD mod looked more like the “Zelda” Wii U tech demo presented at E3 2011.
Fils-Amie said that “Twilight Princess HD” will include other special features which will be revealed at a later time.
In the meantime, fans who are looking forward to an announcement regarding the brand new Wii U-exclusive “Zelda” game may have to wait until 2016. The other major title from the franchise, “Hyrule Warriors Legends,” will become available on Nintendo 3DS early in 2016, introducing more playable characters. It is rumored that Linkle, a new female counterpart of Link, will be featured in the upcoming version.
More updates and details on “Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD” and related “Zelda” titles are expected to surface soon.
