The NHL lockout negotiations seemingly hit a brick wall this week when federal mediation failed to find compromise between the two sides. However, it seems that neither side has given up on the possibility of finding a solution.
According to NHL.com, the owners and players have agreed to meet face-to-face this Tuesday to try and iron out negotiations. Six owners will be present at the meeting and according to Hockeybuzz.com they include Jeremy Jacobs (Bruins), Murray Edwards (Flames), Ronald Burkle (Penguins), Jeffrey Vinik (Lightning), Mark Chipman (Jets) and Larry Tannenbaum (Maple Leafs). There is no mention yet as to which players might attend.
The idea was suggested by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman after negotiations went awry with the federal mediators. He and NHLPA Executive Director Donaldr Fehr will not be present at the meeting.
The NHL has already passed its 80th lockout day and fears of another cancelled season increased after mediation failed this past week. The season has already been cancelled up to December 14. The Winter Classic and NHL All-Star weekend have already been cancelled as well.
