The NHL has now entered day 75 of its 2012-13 lockout. The league and the player's union (NHLPA) are slated to resume negotiations on Thursday in the presence of two mediators.
Both parties met Wednesday for the first in eight days in the presence of two federal mediators Scot Beckenbaugh and John Sweeney. There was no update after Wednesday about how the process went with the two sides.
Negotiations went rampant last week when the NHLPA brought forth a new offer that the league turned down moments after negotiations had begun. The season has already been canceled through December 14 (including the Winter Classic and All-Star Weekend) and it is possible that a 48 game schedule has already been created in the event that the two sides came to an agreement.
According to ESPN Analyst John Buccigross' Twitter account, "NHL player told me NHL team front office person told him, 48 game schedule beginning in Jan. is already outlined #rockoutwithyourNHLockout."
Another important subplot in this ongoing saga is that the NHL Board of Governors will meet in New York on Wednesday and if this lockout persists it is possible that someone may have to answer to them for the ongoing lockout.
