So how has the iPad evolved in just three years?

When it comes to the dimensions, the original iPad had a length of 242.8mm, width of 189.7mm, and a depth of 13.4mm. The new iPad 4 has slightly smaller numbers with a length of 241.2mm, 185.7 in width, and a depth of 9.4mm.

The latest iPad has also diminished in weight, going from 680g for the iPad 1 to 652g for the iPad 4.

The pixel resolution for the first generation iPad is 1,024x768 with 132 ppi while the fourth generation iPad has a pixel resolution of 2,048x1,536 and up to 264 ppi.

The display has also maintained its scratch-resistant glass with oleophobic coating.

For the camera, there was no camera on the original iPad, but the iPad 4 has both rear-and-front-facing cameras.

The front-facing camera of the iPad 4, also known as the FaceTime HD camera, utilizes 1.2-megapixels with 720p for video, and at 30 frames per second (fps).

The rear-facing camera has five-megapixels, 2,582x1,944 resolution, and records in 1080p video at 30 fps.

For the wireless connectivity, the first iPad and iPad 4 utilizes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n while for Bluetooth connection the original started with version 2.1 compared to the fourth generation's version 4.0.

Time has also evolved the mobile operating system (OS). The original iPad featured the iOS 4 while the fourth generation is installed with the new iOS 6.

The chipset on the original iPad featured the Apple A4 but has now progressed to the A6X.

For memory models, both Apple tablets maintained the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variants.
