LG has officially revealed what the company hopes is the next big smartphone, the curved LG G Flex. But while LG formally announced the device, the manufacturer failed to provide a release date or price for the new phone.

The newest handset in LG's roster boasts a 6-inch display, according to the Korean press releasetranslated by Engadget. The display is curved from top to bottom, as opposed to the Galaxy Round's side-to-side curve, giving the phone a distinct bend, vaguely reminiscent of a banana, a design that LG hopes will allow the display to better fit the curvature of the human face and thus offer a more comfortable experience for the user. Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, recently championed the revolutionary design concepts at work behind the LG G Flex.

"The LG G Flex is the best representation yet of how a smartphone should be curved...The LG G Flex with its distinctive design, innovative hardware and consumer-centric UX represents the most significant development in the smartphone space since smartphone became part of our regular vocabulary."

While the curved display for the LG G Flex is a one-of-a-kind model, some may be disappointed to learn that the screen will only be capable of 720p resolution, instead of Full HD. However, the rest of the specs for the smartphone are very impressive. The chipset for the device is a 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 model, making the G Flex one of the more powerful smartphones available. Adding to this is 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU running at 450 MHz.

Other specs for the LG G Flex include a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, along with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. The phone will run on Android 4.2.2 as the operating system, feature a non-removable 3500 mAh battery and have 32GB of internal memory available out of the box. The LG G Flex will only be available in Titan Silver initially, but that may change.

While its currently unclear when the LG G Flex will launch, or for what price, check back with Latinos Post Tech for all the latest news and rumors surrounding the new curved smartphone.
