Bioshock Infinite is on the short list of games that could be considered for Game of the Year 2013, and the game has experienced some renewed interest lately due to the Buried at Sea DLC that is expected to be launched by the holiday season.

In a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread Irrational Games studio head Ken Levine revealed new details about the upcoming Buried at Sea Part 1 DLC for Bioshock Infinite, including how long the first part of the DLC will last:

"The average play thru for part 1 is 2:15-3 hours. We've seen more for people who dig (one guy went five!) and we've seen less for people who aren't interested in the story," explained Levine.

When asked about when fans of the game can expect to see the DLC be released, Levine said that the DLC will soon be submitted to Sony and Microsoft for certification, which is critical to the game being released before the end of 2013. Levine cautioned, however, that even when the game is submitted it could be some time before Buried at Sea is launched:

"Submission can take some time, and if the first-parties bounce it back, we'll have to resubmit. We want to super sure before we have a date, but it will be before the holidays and hopefully fairly soon."

The DLC will be split into two different parts and will be delivered in a timely manner, said Levine, failing to provide exact release dates.

Buried at Sea will bring players to the setting of the first two Bioshock games, the underwater city of Rapture. The DLC will take Booker Dewitt and Elizabeth, the main characters of Bioshock Infinite, and transport them to Rapture on Dec. 31, 1958, before the city became the nightmare seen in previous entries in the series.

The first DLC will have players play as Booker as seen in Bioshock Infinite, but the second episode will give players the chance to play as Elizabeth for the very first time. Levine hinted that the DLC would tie up the plot of Bioshock Infinite and the story of Elizabeth. The DLC has already raised several questions concerning why Booker is in Rapture decades after the events of Bioshock Infinite and what role Elizabeth will play in the fall of Rapture.
