Infinite was a big hit for developer Irrational Games, and it is on the short-list of games in consideration for game of the year. Though Infinite was released in March, the game's first story-based DLC package, Buried at Sea, has yet to arrive. However, now we at least have some idea of what to expect from the game's two-part DLC. IGN recently previewed the DLC, which will take place in the setting of the first two games in the series, Rapture.

The story of Buried at Sea is that Elizabeth, the non-playable companion from Bioshock Infinite, goes to Rapture to find a missing child named Sally. After briefly visiting Booker from Bioshock Infinite, they both travel to the underwater city of Rapture before the city became a chaotic mess. While players will play as Booker for part one of the DLC, Elizabeth will become playable in part two.

Once Elizabeth and Booker get to the city, players will spend a significant amount of time in the beginning of the game exploring the city and seeing former enemies such as the Big Daddy's in their original functions. The original stores, collectibles and plasmids return in this DLC, but the mechanics of Bioshock Infinite will remain.

However, the peace does not last long, and soon Booker has to fight through the splicers and other enemies found in the underwater city. Lead level designer Andres Gonzales revealed that the combat for Buried at Sea will tweak Bioshock Infinite to fit the new setting for the DLC:

"We rebalanced everything to be more toward resource management and stealth, which changes the way that the encounters play. It's more player-initiated. You hear enemies off in the distance. Because these are BioShock Infinite systems, tweaked to create the experience of the original BioShock, it's sort of a hybrid of the two. We had to create the environments to support that gameplay."

Gonzales also said that the team behind the DLC is working hard to recreate the feel of Rapture, including how the enemies will behave and how the enviroment looks and sounds:

"We had to go back and revisit BioShock 1 and determine what makes a Splicer. We spent so much time animating sane people that we had to revist it. What is the aspect about splicers that makes them empathetic, and the proper way to display that? On the environment side, too, there was a lot of, 'alright, who has the office copy of BioShock 1?'"

No release date for Buried at Sea Part One has been set, but Irrational has stated that the DLC will be out before the holidays.
