American Jonathan Trappe failed in his attempt to cross the Atlantic inside a gondola using 370 conventional balloons filled with helium gas, a challenged that was dropped due to technical problems that forced the 39 year-old intrepid to land in Canada.

Jonathan Trappe's objective was to arrive in France departing from Maine, United States, seeking to be the first to cross the Atlantic Ocean using balloons commonly found in parks or children's parties. Euronews site stated that 12 hours after the adventure started, the flight was cut short with only 550 out of the 4,000 kilometers planned.

In 2010, Jonathan Trappe became the first man to cross the English Channel with helium balloons. In 2011, Trappe managed to fly over the Alps, and in April 2013, he was seen crossing Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico in a house held up by helium balloons, "UP" style as shown on his Facebook page.
