The dramatic situation playing out in Mexico caused by hurricanes Ingrid and Manuel, storms which so far have taken the lives of 80 Mexicans, prompted Pope Francis to send a message of solidarity to the Mexican people in the face of these tragic events.
According to Univisión, through a press released sent by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State of His Holiness, the chief of the Catholic Church manifested to be "deeply" grieved when he found out of the dramatic consequences of the storms in states like Guerrero and Chihuahua.
The press release, sent to the president of the Mexican Episcopal Conference and archbishop of Guadalajara, José Francisco Robles Ortega, was sent to the media and the Mexican people by the Mexican Episcopal Conference.
The message reads:
"SOLIDARITY AND LOVE FROM POPE FRANCIS TO MEXICO
In the face of the consequences of hurricane Ingrid and tropical storm Manuel
Mister Cardinal José Francisco Robles Ortega
Archbishop of Guadalajara and President of the Mexican Episcopal Conference:
His Holiness Pope Francis, deeply grieved when he learned of the dramatic consequences of hurricane Ingrid and tropical storm Manuel in their wake through that beloved nation, causing victims, wounded and numerous material damages and leaving many families homeless, offers earnest prayers for the eternal rest of those deceased.
At the same time he asks God to comfort those who suffered these serious misfortunes and to increase in all good-willed people the feelings of fraternity and solidarity to decidedly collaborate in the reconstruction of the affected areas and to effectively help those who are sunk in pain and desperation."
The number of mortal victims of the storms in Mexico has risen in the last hours to 80 deaths in 10 states as a consequence of the strong rains that have been present for the last 5 days, according to the most recent report published by Mexican newspaper El Siglo de Torreón.
