PS4 Release Date News: Sony Working to Ensure Console, Games Don't Sell Out After Launch

Sony is preparing hard to ensure that the launch of the PlayStation 4 goes off without a hitch on Nov. 15. CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America Jack Tretton spoke to Fox Business about the impending launch of the device, and revealed that Sony is holding back some of its device inventory to make certain anyone waiting to buy the device for the holidays can still buy a PS4.

"It's everything we can manufacture. We want to make sure that consumers have an opportunity to buy one on Nov. 15, and through the holidays, so we're holding back some inventory to make sure that people will have an opportunity to buy one ... We can pre-sell every unit we can manufacture. Production yields have been phenomenal, so this will be, by a magnitude of a lot, the biggest launch we've ever had," said Tretton. 

Tretton did not disclose how many preorders Sony has received for the PlayStation 4, but at Gamescom 2013 the company did reveal that they have surpassed the 1 million mark for preorders. If the company is holding back stock for the post-launch period, then it will be interesting to see exactly how many PlayStation 4's Sony has made so far and how many they will have available at launch and afterwards. Tretton did state that "there's so much pent-up demand for it that you could sell every one that you could create," and that the PlayStation 4 "is the crown jewel in what has been a tremendous road for us since the debut of the original PlayStation here back in September of 95."

The CEO also explained why he believes the PlayStation 4 has the advantage over the upcoming Xbox One and the already released Wii U. Tretton thinks that the software lineup for the PlayStation 4 - consisting of several blockbuster third party titles, such as Assassin's Creed 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, as well first-party exclusives such as Knack and Killzone: Shadows Fall - gives the console and advantage. Jack Tretton also believes that the price of the PlayStation 4 gives it an advantage, as at $400 it is $100 less than the Xbox One.
