The New York Yankees are still pushing hard to get Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Michael Young, a source close to situation reported on Wednesday.

The Yankees are reportedly in talks with the Phillies about acquiring the third baseman with seven All-Star and two World Series appearances around his belt.

The 36-year old Young has been the subject of trade rumors over the past few weeks with multiple teams regularly making calls to inquire about the third baseman's availability.

Despite the trade rumors, New York Post writer Joel Sherman reported the Phillies have not yet made Young available for trade heading into the final hours of Wednesday's trade deadline.

However, Yahoo Sports baseball insider Jeff Passan believes Young will likely be moved Wednesday after learning the Phillies' plans in calling up third baseman Cody Asche.

Young, who's batting .275 with 8 home runs and 34 RBIs, is drawing interest from the Yankees, the Boston Red Sox and his former team, the Texas Rangers.

While Young has a no-trade clause in his current contract,  he's reportedly open to waive it if he's going either to the Rangers or the Red Sox, who are in prime position to secure a playoff spot at the end of the regular-season.

The Rangers are trying to get the service of Young in an effort to add more offensive firepower in their batting line-up, particularly in the designated hitting position.

There are reports that DH Lance Berkman is now looking to retire from competitive baseball and is currently negotiating with the Rangers to forfeit the remaining $4.4 million of contract.

Berkman, who signed a one-year $11 million deal with the Rangers, struggled with a hip injury all season long. He batted .254 with six homers and 34 RBIs.

On the other hand, the Red Sox are set to move on with Brandon Snyder and Brock Holt at third baseman following the trade that sent Jose Iglesias to the White Sox in exchange for former CY Young winner Jake Peavy. However, the Red Sox are still trying to salvage a more experienced Young from the Phillies before the trade deadline.
