Former Major League Baseball slugger Manny Ramirez has opted out of his contract with a Taiwanese baseball league team on Thursday, ending his three-month tenure with EDA Rhinos.

Ramirez will reportedly forego the remaining days of his Chinese Professional Baseball League contract worth $25,000 per month for greener pastures and stiffer competitions in Japan.

The former Boston Red Sox batting legend also noted that he wanted more time with his family, especially after his son , Manny Jr., went undrafted in last year's MLB draft.

Ramirez, a 12-time All-Star and 9-time Silver Slugger winner, was dominating the competition in Taiwan despite turning 42-years old this September. He batted .352 with eight homers and 43 RBI in three productive months with the Rhinos.

According to the New York Daily News, Japanese League's Chiba Lotte Marines is reportedly bent on signing the mercurial slugger to a much more lucrative contract.

Ironically, Ramirez's former coach during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Joe Torre, has also been creating news.

Multiple North American news agencies have reported the heroism of Torre's daughter, Cristina, who saved the life of a one-year old baby.

Cristina, who probably inherited the fielding skills of his father, caught the baby boy as he fell from a building in Brooklyn on Wednesday.

The 44-year-old said she was just walking along Third Avenue near 91st Street in Brooklyn when she saw the boy hanging in front of a store at around 10 a.m.

"The woman caught the baby," one of the witnesses told Daily News. "The baby was shaken. Everyone was going up to the woman and hugging her. I hugged her."

The news about Cristina's heroic feat became a sensation in the Internet overnight, while the parents of the baby was handcuffed and taken into prison for endangering the welfare of a child and neglect.
