Three days passed by at Merion and Phil Mickelson is still on top of the leaderboard with just one more round to go at the US Open Championship.

After experiencing some hiccups earlier in the third round, Lefty made a move late to become the only player under par (1-under 209) after 54 holes.  Mickelson is looking to become only sixth person to win the US Open crown wire-to-wire, joining the likes of Jack Nicklaus (1980), Payne Stewart (1991), Ratief Goosen (2001), Tiger Woods (2000 and 2002) and Rory McIlroy (2011).

After five runner-up heartbreaks (1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2009) at US Open, Mickelson is without doubt closing in on his breakthrough win in the Grand Slam event.

"I love being in the thick of it," Mickelson told ESPN after the third round "I've had opportunities in years past, and it has been so fun, even though it's been heartbreaking to come so close a number of times and let it slide.

South African Charl Schwartzel, and Americans Hunter Mahan and Steve Stricker are very much in contention with just one stroke behind the leader while Tiger Woods seemed headed to another fruitless Grand Slam tournament stint after scoring a 76 on Saturday.

Pressure is building up heading into the final day of competition at Merion as players scramble for one final push towards the prestigious US Open crown.

Fourth round play starts at 8:44 a.m ET with Mickelson scheduled to kick start his final 18 holes at 3:20 p.m.
