After 36 excruciating holes at Merion, Tiger Woods (3-over 143) is surprisingly very much in contention for his first Grand Slam in five years despite dealing with a bothersome elbow injury.

The world's top golfer is currently tied at 17th place along with his groupmate Rory McIlroy and just four strokes behind the clubhouse leaders - Phil Mickelson and Billy Horschel.

Merion has been merciless for the participating golfers, providing them all sorts of difficult looks and shattering the dreams of several majors hopefuls. In short, the 113th edition of the US Open has turned into a muddy upheaval as competitors head into the pivotal third round play on Saturday.

Speaking of mud, Tiger Woods' girlfriend, Lindsay Vonn, has seen much of it over the last two days. Vonn has been supportive for his man for the entire course of Friday's play, but she somehow couldn't resist playing around in the rain-soaked greens of the iconic golf course in Philadelphia.

Vonn, a World and Olympic skiing champion, is apparently trying to learn a new sport - skiing on the mud.

"Sums up my day on the golf course... #muddy #usopen2013," Vonn posted on his Instagram account.

But if you think Vonn is already done with her weird obsession with mud, then you are wrong. Hours before posting the previous photo, the skier-turned golfer-lover uploaded on vine a video showing muddy boots of several spectators at the US Open. Talking about a muddy Friday for Vonn, huh?
