Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is reportedly doing well on the first day of training camp, participating in several drills more actively than everybody has expected.

Rondo, who is still recovering from ACL surgery, reportedly participated in a non-contact offensive skill workout for 50 minutes and then took a rest in the afternoon, but was very attentive in watching defensive drills and three-minute scrimmages.

"He went through the morning workout, and he's probably going to do one workout a day," head coach Brad Stevens said in an interview with Red's Army. "And then he took the afternoon off, but he was very active in the afternoon."

Stevens, who will enter his first season as head coach for the rebuilding Celtics, seemed to like what he is seeing in Rondo on the initial day of training camp.

"He was in the huddles," Stevens told Red's Army. "He's in the drills as far as communicating. You saw him leading our stretching at the end. He was really active today."

Rondo is scheduled to join the team around December, but his steady progress in his rehabilitation has everyone in the locker room excited about the future of the team with the All-Star guard assuming the leadership role following the trade that sent Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets and the departure of Doc Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Meanwhile, Brazilian center Vitor Faverani has reportedly shown some solid skills on Day 1 of training camp. According to coach Stevens, Faverani has easily emerged as the Celtics' legitimate center. Stevens added he also liked the ability of the Brazilian big man to knock down jumpers, including a long trey.

"I thought Vitor was pretty good today," Stevens said. "He's obviously a guy with great size. I think he's our truest center and a guy that can shoot the basketball. He made a 3, although he did it off the glass."
