The Xperia Z Ultra, Sony's phablet-sized version of its flagship phone, the Xperia Z, is slated to bring its 6.4-inch screen and waterproof casing to India within the month, if reports are correct.
The maxed-out version of the Xperia Z has begun rolling out across the globe, and the markets in India are right in Sony's crosshairs, though Sony hasn't confirmed anything yet. According to a report from the Times of India, the giant waterproof handset is making its way to India on July 31.
The extra large device has been listed on Sony Mobile's India website, and some online retailers in the subcontinent are taking pre-orders. So far, it looks like the price of Sony's Xperia Z Ultra could range from anywhere near Rs 46,990 (about $787 U.S.) to under Rs 40,000 ($ 670), according to some rumors.
Sony unveiled the phablet sized Xperia Z Ultra in late June, promising a 6.4-inch screen - which dwarfs the already substantially sized 5-inch Xperia Z's display. The Ultra had a full HD Triluminous 1920 x 1080p display, packing about 344 pixels per inch.
The Xperia Z ultra is powered by a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, making it the fastest mobile chipset to make its way into a smartphone so far. The Xperia Z had a 1.5GHz quad-core processor. Other features included a 3,000 mAh battery with a perk: "Stamina Mode," which is designed to preserve the phablet's battery power up to four times its normal capacity on standby.
Sony's biggest claim to fame with the Xperia Z lineup is that they are waterproof. The Xperia Z could already stay underwater, up to three feet for thirty minutes, and the Xperia Z Ultra beat the Xperia Z's IP57 water and dust-resistant specification with an IP55 and IP58 certified body. So far, the UK has been fortunate to get a release date, and India's unofficial July 31 day looks to be confirmed any day now.
