Sony's popular waterproof Android smartphone, the Xperia Z, will finally be coming to the United States. T-Mobile announced at its "Our Boldest Moves Yet" event on July 10 that the handset will go on sale through the carrier July 17 with upfront cost of $99.99.
The launch of the Xperia Z on T-Mobile will mark the Xperia Z's first steps onto U.S. soil. The phone, which stole the media spotlight when it launched earlier this year, revolutionizes the meaning of durability in a handset. The Xperia Z is waterproof in depths up to one meter for up to 30 minutes, and is dustproof as well.
Where T-Mobile Equipment Installment Plans are available, the initial $99.99 will be followed by monthly payments of $20 for two years, bringing the total cost of the device to $579.99. Interested buyers can visit the T-Mobile Xperia Z page and sign up for more details. T-Mobile is offering the Xperia Z in black, and in a special exclusive purple as well.
The Sony Xperia Z is equipped with a 5-inch 1080p display pushing out 441 pixels per inch, 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 16GB memory, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The specs are essentially the same as the international version, which is good news all around, as both consumers and critics alike have embraced Sony's latest flagship.
