Michelle Obama celebrated her 49th birthday yesterday with a bang--literally!

The fashion forward First Lady, known for her affordable style and flawless hairdos, debuted an effortlessly chic full bang that sent the style world buzzing.  Her new 'do was revealed by a photo that was sent out from her new Twitter account, @FLOTUS, which is managed by her office.  In the photo she is seen wearing a red dress by American fashion designer Zac Posen while she is speaking with Inaugural citizen co-chair David Hall.

Later that evening, Mrs. Obama was wined and dined by President Obama who took her out to dinner at Cafe Milano, an upscale Italian restaurant in Georgetown, reports the Washington Post. The couple was joined by friends and stayed at the restaurant for three hours.

In honor of Michelle O.'s new look, the co-host of ABC's Live! With Kelly and Michael, Kelly Ripa, flaunted her own set of bangs with a blonde wig.  She tweeted from @KellyandMichael: "@FLOTUS you inspired us! #BangsFriday"

The next time Mrs. Obama is scheduled to make a public appearance is this Saturday, when she will help launch several days of inaugural festivities.

The fashion world will also be watching for the ensemble that Mrs. O. will wear during President Obama's second inauguration this Monday.  Fittingly, the country's first African-American first couple will celebrate the start of a second term in the White House on Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. In honor of the slain civil right's legend, Obama plans to use a Bible that MLK actually owned.
