Jurassic Park 4 Release Date Slated for June 13, 2014

"Jurassic Park" will make its long awaited return with its fourth installment in two years.

According to numerous reports, the franchise will return to movie theaters on June 13, 2014. The film will be produced by Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver as writers. According to Stack Gamer, the script has already been finished. There is no news on who the director might be. 

The announcement is hardly a surprise since Spielberg had previously announced his commitment to making the film back in December 2011. "I haven't been active in the last year because I've been so busy obviously on 'War Horse,' 'Tintin' and now I'm currently shooting 'Lincoln,' but right now, it's on the schedule to bring out another 'Jurassic Park,'" he said.

There has been no information on what the story of the film might be. The film will be released in 3D.  

The first three movies in the franchises have posted strong box office receipts. The original film took in $914 million worldwide; $357 million came in the United States. The film is currently 22^nd in all-time domestic gross. The sequel was released in 1997 and brought in $618 million worldwide, but the third film only brought in $368 million world-wide. The steady decline in sales for the series could be attributed to quality. The first film was hailed as a masterwork and received 90 percent approval on aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. The follow-up only got a 52 percent approval from critics while the third was only approved by 50 percent of the pundits.

"Jurassic Park 4" will have steep competition in 2014. Films slated for release include sequels to "Transformers," "X-Men," "The Hobbit," "Spider-Man," "Captain America," "How to Train Your Dragon," and "Planet of the Apes." There will also be a new "Godzilla" remake and a "Ninja Turtles" reboot.
