Pep Guardiola is one of the great managers in recent history. He led Barcelona to 14 major trophies in just four seasons. When he left the club last summer, many wondered when and where he would manage again.

The wait is now over as Bayern Munich has officially announced that Guardiola will be the team's manager starting next season and will be in charge of the team for the next three seasons.

"Pep Guardiola is one of the most successful coaches in the world and we are sure that he can make not just Bayern, but all of German football shine," Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement published on the club's website. He added that ""He is one of the most successful coaches in the world and we are sure that he can make not just Bayern, but all of German football shine."

Guardiola is the first Spanish manager for the German squad since the club entered the Bundesliga in 1965 according to ESPN.com.

Guardiola had stated early last week that he had an interest in returning to managing. Under him, Barcelona won three straight Spanish League trophies from 2008 to 2011 as well as two Champions league championships in 2009 and 2011. He also won the Copa del Rey with the club in 2009 and 2011 and the Spanish Super Cup in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Guardiola's Barcelona side also won the UEFA Super Cup in 2009 and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2009 and 2011.

Munich's current boss Jupp Heyncke is set to retire his summer.
