Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron's highly anticipated new movie "Gravity" has finally been given a release date by Warner Bros. The film will be released October 4th, 2013.
"Gravity," which stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, tells the story of two astronauts stranded in a damaged vessel after their space station is destroyed. The film focuses on the astronauts' attempts to return to Earth and was originally slated to be released in November 2012. However it was delayed in order to leave more time for post-production and because Warner Bros' 2012 slate was too crowded with such films as "Argo," "Cloud Atlas," and "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."
Warner Bros. has kept the film under secrecy and very little is known about it. The film has been completed with only 3D conversion still in process.
"Gravity" is Cuaron's first film since 2006's highly acclaimed "Children of Men." The director has also directed "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and the Academy Award Nominee "Y Tu Mama Tambien." Cuaron considered many of Hollywood's top actresses for the physically demanding part of Dr. Ryan Stone, the woman at the story's center before casting Bullock. Cuarosn also revealed that he co-wrote the film with his son Jonas. "Gravity" is rumored to have a 17-minute opening shot and George Clooney has already hyped it as one of the most visually stunning films ever made.
"Gravity" will open in theaters against "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," "Paranoia," The Vince Vaughn Comedy "The Delivery Man" and "Star Wars Epsiode II: Revenge of the Sith in 3D." The film will hit theaters in 3D and IMAX.
