Russell Henley is our PGA Player of the Week. In his first tournament on the PGA Tour, Henley earned the victory in the Sony Open over the weekend. He registered a 24-under-par 256 in only his seventh professional tournament.

His weekend performance was the second-best score for a 72-hole tournament in the tour's history. (The lowest ever score came in Tommy Armour's 2003 Valero Texas Open win.) In addition, it was the best score for any Sony Open participant by four shots. He was the best of all players in the par-4 holes, finishing at 17-under. In the tournament (and 2013 season), Henley ranks first in seven different scoring categories.

Henley has won three tournaments since the end of September, the first two on the Web.com Tour. In that span, he is 73-under par with an average of 67.15 per 18 holes. He was the second amateur to ever win on the Web.com Tour when he clinched the Stadion Classic in 2011.

In combination with his previous wins, the Sony Open victory will earn him a top 50 world ranking.

Henley has already participated in one major tournament as an amateur, the U.S. Open. He tied for 16th in the tourney back in 2010 as a low amateur, and tied for 42nd in the same event in 2011.

The Macon, Ga. native went to school at the University of Georgia and won the 2010 Haskins Award for being the best collegiate golfer.
