Chelsea Clinton's stepping back to White House related business as the daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton has been appointed as Honorary Chair of the 2013 National Day of Service, ahead of the 2013 Inauguration.

The National Day of Service is the kick off to the President Barack Obama's second inauguration weekend.

"We are thrilled that Chelsea Clinton will play such a critical role in mobilizing Americans across the country to take part in the National Day of Service," said Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) President and CEO Steve Kerrigan.

The PIC President and CEO noted Chelsea's work with the Clinton Foundation and efforts to help communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy as examples of how she has served and strengthen the country.

"Chelsea sets a remarkable example for serving and strengthening our country," added Kerrigan. "As Honorary Chair, she will be instrumental in helping lead the President's call to service and growing this important tradition."

"There is no more fitting way to mark a presidential inauguration than a day of service," said Chelsea. "Coming together as a country to strengthen our communities has always been part of the American spirit. I am deeply grateful that President Obama and his administration have put service at the center of the Inauguration weekend and I am proud to be part of a nation-wide service effort, honoring the service and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and building a brighter future for all of us."

The events will start on Sat., Jan. 19 and culminate at the Service Summit on the National Mall.

President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will be inaugurated on Jan. 21.
