Jodie Foster Retirement: Actress Golden Globe Speech Confuses Twitter; Not Ending Career (VIDEO)

During the Golden Globe Awards ceremony on Sunday Jan. 13, actress Jodie Foster was awarded with the Cecil B. DeMille Life Achievement Award for her historic career. As she received the award, Foster gave a rousing speech that created buzz about a potential retirement and her sexuality.

During the speech, Foster seemed to hint at retirement when she said, "if you had been a public figure by the time you were a toddler, if you had had to fight for a life that felt real, and honest, and normal against all odds, then you too might value privacy above all else."

She then added that "It's just that from now on, I may be holding a different talking stick." Backstage, she was asked about retiring and the actress emphatically noted that "Oh, no, that's so funny. You couldn't drag me away. And I'd like to be directing tomorrow."

Nonetheless the speech created a lot of confusion on Twitter as fans questioned whether the thespian had in fact ended her career.

During the speech, the actress also opened up about her sexuality. At one point she stated that "I have a sudden urge to say in public something I have never been able to say. ... I'm sort of nervous but not as much as my publicist. ... I am ... single." She then went on to talk about sexuality and noted that "there's no big coming-out speech tonight. I did my coming out a thousand years ago back in the Stone Age."

She added that celebrities are expected to open up about their private lives and reveal their information with a press conference followed by a "tabloid cover and reality show." She then went on to thank her former partner, Cydney Bernard, her sons and her mother.
