In the mid-season premiere of 'Grey's Anatomy,' fans of the ABC medical drama witnessed as one couple joined in marriage, while two other relationships were ruined by divorce and death.
After skipping out on her wedding to fiancé Ben (Jason George), Bailey (Chandra Wilson) continued to operate on Richard's (James Pickens Jr.) wife Adele (guest star Loretta Devine). With the help of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Bailey is able to successfully operate on Adele and head back to her wedding--much to her fiancé's happiness. However, unbeknownst to her, Adele passes away shortly afterwards of a heart attack, leaving Richard a widow.
Meanwhile, back at her wedding, Callie (Sara Ramirez) and her wife Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) attempted to rekindle the romance in the bedroom. Although the two don't end up having sex, they vow to stick together during the rough patches of their relationship. While Callie and Arizona rekindle their love, Christina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) finalized their divorce despite some heavy trepidation.
In the upcoming episode, "The End is the Beginning of the End," the doctors affected by the plane crash last May will finally receive their payday. Derek (Patrick Dempsey) will also begin the recovery of his hand, which was injured during the crash.
A grieving Richard will try to avoid Catherine Avery's (Debbie Allen) romantic advances after his wife's death, ABC teases. Meanwhile, Catherine's son Jackson will take up one of Mark Sloane's (Eric Dane) old patients.
'Grey's Anatomy' S9E11, "The End is the Beginning of the End," airs on Thursday, January 17 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
