On Jan. 10th the Critic's Choice Awards will hand out their prestigious awards. The ceremony marks the first big awards show of the season.

Among the films to be honored are Academy Award nominated films "Lincoln," "Zero Dark Thirty," "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Life of Pi," "Django Unchained," "Argo" and "Silver Linings Playbook." "The Master" and "Moonrise Kingdom" are also nominated for the top prize.

Among the directors nominated are Ben Affleck ("Argo"), Kathryn Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty"), Tom Hooper ("Les Miserables"), David O. Russell ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Ang Lee ("Life of Pi") and Steven Spielberg ("Lincoln").

The Critic's Choice also have awards for best comedy and action movies and this year they have added categories for best actor and actress in a comedy and action movie. Among the action nominees are "The Dark Knight Rises," "Looper," "Skyfall," and "The Avengers." The Comedy films nominated include "Ted," "Silver Lings Playbook," "This is 40," "21 Jump Street," and "Bernie."

Jennifer Lawrence is nominated in three different categories including Best Actress in an Action Movie ("The Hunger Games"), Best Actress in a Comedy ("Silver Linings Playbook"), and Best Actress in a Motion Picture ("also "Silver Linings Playbook").

Since the inception of the Critic's Choice, the awards have been the most accurate predictor of the Academy awards. However this year may be different as the awards are being handed out the day that the Oscar nominations were announced, minimizing these awards' impacts on Oscar nominations.

The awards will be telecast live on the CW at 8pm and with a live stream of the red carpet and behind the scenes footage on PopSugar.
