Samsung is one of the biggest names showcasing at this years CES, but its flagship Galaxy S4 handset will be noticeably absent from the convention. Still, details about the Galaxy S4 have still been trickling out, and the latest release date news points to a March-May timeframe.

According to a new report from Korean publication Asiae (via AndroidAuthority), a Samsung official has stated that the Galaxy S4 could be releasing as early as March. Apparently Samsung has been deciding whether to launch the Galaxy S4 initially in South Korea, the United States, or the United Kingdom. The Galaxy S3 was publicly unveiled in the United Kingdom back in May 2013.

The report mentions that a March release date is likely as Samsung looks to be more aggressive against Apple in 2013. Apple is expected to release an iPhone 5 successor in the first half of 2013, and a March release date for the Galaxy S4 would give Samsung an edge in what will surely be one of the most heated tech publicity exchanges to date (remember the Galaxy S3 vs. iPhone 5 ads?).

A recent posting by Samsung Lebanon on Facebook stated that consumers should not expect the Galaxy S4 before May 2013. Keep in mind that Facebook posts aren't necessarily 100 percent accurate, but what this could mean is that Samsung might unveil the Galaxy S4 in March, and have it released worldwide by May. There's even a photo of a Galaxy S4 launch event invite dated March 4, 2013 making its rounds on the Internet. Only time will tell whether or not it's real.

Either way, most of the evidence indicates that Samsung is not interested at unveiling the Galaxy S4 at trade shows such as CES and MWC. Samsung is reported to be giving a sneak peek at the Galaxy S4 to high-level executives at CES, but the nitty gritty won't be known until it holds its own launch event in order to garner the highest amount of publicity.

The Galaxy S4 is rumored to be coming with a 5-inch 1080p display, 2.0GHz Exynos quad-core processor, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera.

When do you think the Galaxy S4 will launch?
