Earlier this week, reports broke out that Apple was rumored to be in talks with social-navigation app maker Waze but those rumors, new reports state, may have been premature.
Tech Crunch.com reported on Tuesday that multiple sources were saying that Apple was in talks to purchase Waze, which offers GPS turn-by-turn navigation, for $500 million--$400 million, plus another $100 million in incentives.
However, the website ran another story on Thursday that said the deal wasn't happening.
"That information comes from multiple sources close to the situation," the web site wrote in the Thursday article.
The tech news site added that the previous story claimed multiple sources of the rumored deal, but noted that the original story was quick to qualify the information as a "rumor."
"Because that's exactly what it was. This isn't a rumor (of a non-deal). There is no deal is happening. At least not now or anytime soon," the site reported.
The news of the potential acquisition by Apple was reported by several sites, as the potential of the deal would have had big implications for Apple.
With Apple looking to remedy troubles with the Maps app built into iOS, the purchase of Waze may have been a potential solution to the issue. Another source "familiar with Apple's thinking" told CNET that the reports of an Apple acquisition of Waze were completely "fabricated."
