A few days ago, news broke that Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez had entered the pursuit of Barcelona striker David Villa. The news was surprising because many believed that Chelsea's prime target was Radamel Falcao.

However, it seems that Falcao is not interested in moving to Chelsea as a number of reports indicate that he will reject their offer this January. It seems that the Colombian striker is content to remain with his current club Atletico Madrid until the end of the soon. According to IB Times, Falcao made a statement saying that he acknowledged "the great effort made by [Atletico president] Enrique Cerezo for me to stay at the club."

He added, "I thank God our results have been so positive and that we have done so well this season so far. My expectation is that I will be staying at the club until the end of the season."

Previous reports indicated that Chelsea was willing to pay his 60 million euro buyout and was going to offer him a whopping 200,000 euros a week.

The rejection of Falcao forces Chelsea to seek out other options at the striker position to help out inconsistent Fernando Torres. While Villa is a target, other reports indicate that Chelsea has set their eyes on Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo. The 27-year old has eight goals in 15 matches for his team and could be a major force at the forward position for Chelsea. Sports World Report indicates that the Blues are preparing to pay close to 18 million euros ($23.6 million) for the striker. This option may be more plausible as Sevilla has admitted a need to sell top players in order to pay back large debts.
