Real Madrid has been in the rumor mill for the upcoming January transfer window and it seems that "Los Merengues" are looking to lure in a big fish.

According to numerous reports, Madrid has initiated talks with Tottenham Hotspurs to bring 23-year-old Gareth Bale to the Santiago Bernabeau. According to IB Times, Madrid coach is looking to offer the Welsh winger close to 33 million pounds to bring him to play with his former teammate Luka Modric and the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil.

Bale stated back in April that he would not object to a transfer to Madrid or Barcelona if given the chance. "If you are talking about Barcelona or Real Madrid, two of the biggest clubs in the world, then it's a bit like Harry [Redknapp] and England, it's a once-in-a-lifetime dream,' he said in a report by UK publication Metro. 'If you said to any young player that you could play for Barcelona or Real would they turn it down? Probably not... If a bid was accepted you would obviously have to seriously consider it."

According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham Manager Andre Villas-Boas will not sell the winger this January. 'I have no concerns at all about the possibility of Bale going in January,' Villas-Boas said in response to the movement of Bale.

He added that "Like all of our key players, Gareth is on a long-term contract as we continue to build for the future. We have no intention of letting any of our top players go."

UK publication The Independent claims that Bale is Mourinho's top target though there have been rumors that he may also be interested in Manchester United keeper David de Gea.
