Both Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note owners have been disappointed as 2012 will draw to a close and no Android 4.1 Jelly update for either of the devices has been rolled out. Reports, however, indicate that the update isn't too far off, and should be arriving January 2013.

Jelly Bean for both handsets were expected to have released in November or December, but Samsung still hasn't started an official rollout. A Samsung Sweden Facebook statement pushed the date for the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update back to January 2013, and SamMobile states that this applies to the Galaxy Note upgrade as well. Samsung has also already put up a webpage for a Galaxy Note Premium Suite update which includes Jelly Bean, meaning the upgrade can't be too far off.

When Jelly Bean does hit the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note, users can expect a slew of new features. Alongside Google Now and Project Butter, Samsung will be packing some functions previously only found on the Galaxy Note 2, such as Multi-Window, which allows for two apps to run simultaneously on screen for PC-like multitasking.

As usual, if you're absolutely tired of waiting, you can download Android 4.1.2 ROMS here. The standard warning must be given, as these ROMS are not official and flashing always runs the risk of rendering your handset unusable and without a warranty. Be sure to read instructions carefully and always back up your device.

Word of warning: U.S. Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note owners might have to wait longer than international counterparts if the handset is tied to a carrier. U.S. carriers usually take more time to fill the update with bloatware before approving and distributing it across their networks.

Let us know if you have a carrier-tied Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Note and whether you're holding out for the official update or have already flashed your handset to Android 4.1.2.
